Being a parent is the hardest job in the world, and because I have such amazing parents, I know that these skills don’t come natural.

There isn’t just the relationship with the kid, that you have to endow with surviving skills, self-managing skills, confidence, communication skills, and lots of other things, but there is also the relationship with your partner which has to be taken care of and, last but definitely not least, the relationship with yourself.

I dare to say my parents are the best parents I’ve heard of out there, they were able (and still are) to create this awesome balance of trust, laughter, responsibility, honesty, vulnerability and straight up bad-ass-ery. How? Well here are a few pointers from them:

don’t raise boys and girls differently: they both need the same amount of trust & strength, they both need to learn about their own bodies and of the opposite sex;
TALK WITH YOUR KIDS - ask them questions, get to know them, who they are, what they like, why they like it? Don’t be afraid they will think differently than you: that’s the goal!
raise them to be independent, to clearly identify what they can improve, teach them to say NO;
dance with them, goof around, make jokes, encourage them to be spontaneous;
let them make mistakes and learn from them, let them suffer and dispair, but when they need you, always be there
dads: if you have a daughter know she’ll search the love you showed her mother. Moms: if you have a daughter she’ll look up to you to understand how to behave with the opposite sex.
dads: if you have a son be as gentle as with a daughter, they are both children, the gender differentiation is just in our adult head. Moms: if you have a son teach them survival skills (cooking, cleaning, organizing, etc) and to respect people, not just women.
involve them in family business, money discussions, moving arrangements, everything! It will not only make them feel part of the family, but they’ll feel seen and listened to, which brings me to my next point…
listen to your children: what makes their eyes light up? Help them to not be afraid of emotions and to properly express themselves.

We all see so often people, therapists, coaches (myself included) and so on, telling us continuously to love ourselves.
However, love is understood by each person differently. For some, love means jealousy, for others, love means manipulation/submission, for others again, love is manifested through violence.
Therefore, many of us don’t have a clear understanding over what love really is, or how it should feel, for that matter.
But you know your girl here she got a few tricks up her sleeve:
‍🩹 don’t fear pain and take responsibility for your feelings - if the world doesn’t make space for you, it means it’s up to you to make some.
‍🩹 dedicate time everyday to sit with your emotions, get away from distractions and check in with yourself - what was your favorite moment of the day, why? The worst? Why? What lesson have you learned? etc.
‍🩹 don’t compare yourself with others, each has their own journey, compare yourself with who you were a year ago.
‍🩹 value your strengths as they can be leveled up to skill, value your weaknesses as they can be leveled up to lessons.
‍🩹 practice awareness: be kind with the negative things you discover about yourself and treat them with respect.
‍🩹 train your egoic mind to work with your awareness rather than having a war-zone in your head all the time. How? Question everything you do/say. What are your false beliefs?
‍🩹 make sure the dialogue in your head is constructive, thinking “I suck” not only is not true, but also subjective. When the voice in your head seems to be mean to you, ask it: “who told you that”?
And of course arm yourself with time and patience as the process will be the ride of your life. Sometimes you’ll love yourself, sometimes is going to be hard to do that, but be there for you, everyday, support yourself and become the biggest fan of your evolution.

What is the difference between power and weakness?
In my experience, the difference is awareness. Awareness, very simply put, is to know, to realize, to be aware that something is important; and you might think “I’m very much aware of what is important to me, thank you very much”, but I am here to say that this is not always the case.
I’ll give you an example: at the beginning of my relationship I used to say almost obsessively that “I’m weird” or I’d do something completely spontaneous (like singing in a weird voice) and then quickly laugh and say “What the hell is wrong with me?” almost as a joke.
Well, I thought it was a joke. Genuinely.
He thought it was a joke as well, until he asked me: “why do you always say that you’re weird? What you do is not even THAT weird” and for some reason this question echoed in my head.
At first my ego wanted to reply “Oh, we’re just this silly, funny person and we’re just exaggerating”, but in my head I wasn’t really satisfied with this answer, I actually realized that it wasn’t even an answer at all, that was an excuse.
Then, another voice made space in my head: “No!” this voice was basically screaming at me “I don’t do this because I’m fun, I do this because I am terrified of showing him a side of me that will shock him, disgust him, scare him or whatever else could happen. I am scared because in my past relationships I wasn’t fully accepted, and that made me wrongly conclude that the problem is me.”
I had 2 answers in my head: one would’ve portrayed me in a glowing, carefree way, in a low-maintenance way, in a superficial way, maybe. The other would’ve brought the atmosphere to a serious note, but it was the real answer, it couldn’t be ignored.
I chose to be real, and because of that, he felt safe to be real with me as well.
This is of course just an example, but one that hopefully shows you how even the smallest things we do/say, often hide more meaningful secrets. Hidden even from our minds.
Question everything you do from how you talk to yourself to how you hold a fork – maybe there are better ways to do what you have been doing on auto-pilot for so long.

Do you dread being alone, afraid of your own thoughts and/or feelings?
It is normal for us to feel this way living in the “fast century”, however there is a practice we have long forgotten about. A practice that animals still wildly exercise, a practice that is able to connect with your inner self, a practice capable of bringing peace: stillness.
Zoologists who observed animals in their native habitat were amazed by their vast idleness. Hours and hours without doing ANYTHING. No phone, no Netflix, no significant other or friends, no books to read, no places to club/drink/meet, no things to buy, NO DISTRACTIONS.
Human beings seem to be completely incapable to be natural as to reconnect with nature we need to practice what animals have been teaching us for centuries: stillness.
Stillness is, put very simply, the art of finding inner peace. To be still means to simply exist without judgement; it means to observe thoughts, situations, other people and connect with everything through love, not attachment or judgement. Stillness is when our beingness remains unaffected by any movement, action or doing. It is the depth of the ocean unaffected by its waves. It is the ability to surrender to our inner-heart and live from here in all that we do.
Without so many fancy words stillness is sacrificing distractions to achieve peace and there are several ways of doing that: stillness of the body, spirit, and mind.
The stillness of the mind is reached by understanding and feeling that we are not our thoughts, we are the one observing them – this allows a level of detachment that allows stillness to happen.
The stillness of the Spirit is expressed through kindness for our past, is expressed through the dissolution of the concept “mistake”, and its rebirth as “lessons”. It is also understood as kindness towards the things we need to better about ourselves.
The stillness of the Body is about relaxing the machine that carries us through life. Is about stopping all movements and focus on just existing in harmony with your body.

나는 여전히 나를 불편하게 만드는 한 두려움이 있어요. 만약 내가 사진에서 사람을 봤지만 실생활에서는 보지 않으면 첫 만남에서 그를 알아보지 못할까 봐 두려워요.
