On October 16, 1901 President Theodore Roosevelt invited his adviser, African American spokesman Booker T. Washington to dine with him and his family. Several other presidents had invited African-Americans to meetings at the White House but never to a meal. The White House released a statement headed, "Booker T Washington of Tuskegee, Alabama, dined with the President last evening." The response from the southern press & politicians was immediate and vicious. James K. Vardaman, governor of Mississippi complained that the White House was now, "so saturated with the odor of nigger that the rats had taken refuge in the stable;" the Memphis Scimitar declared it "the most damnable outrage which has ever been perpetrated by any citizen of the United States” & the Missouri Sedalia Sentinel published on its front page a poem entitled "Niggers in the White House” which ended suggesting that either the president's daughter should marry Washington or his son one of Washington's relatives.
‪Senator Benjamin Tillman: "we shall have to kill a thousand niggers to get them back in their places." While some in the black community responded positively – such as Bishop Henry Turner who said to Washington, "You are about to be the great representative and hero of the Negro race, notwithstanding you have been very conservative" – other black leaders were less enthusiastic.
William Monroe Trotter, a radical opponent of Washington, said the dinner showed him up as "a hypocrite who supports social segregation between blacks and whites while he himself dines at the White House." The White House first responded to the outcry from the south by claiming that the meal had not occurred and that the Roosevelt women had not been at dinner with a black man, while some White House personnel said it was a luncheon not an evening meal. No other African American was invited to dinner for almost 30 years.

On Wednesday, #PittsburghHighSchool had its costume day, where students were allowed to dress up and participate in the school’s costume contest. Instead of wearing a traditional Halloween costume, a student decided to wear a #KKK robe. ABC 7 reports that the student’s KKK robe was taken, but parents and students have been left outraged and disturbed.
“I was surprised, like how the principal or none of the security agents didn’t stop him or anything like that,” said one of the students at the school. Come to find out, the student claimed to have worn the KKK robe was a “dare.”

A Louisiana man has been accused of slapping a police officer unprovoked.
KNOE reported a Monroe police officer said he was driving by when Troy Davis waved him down Oct. 24.
The officer wrote in an arrest report that Davis approached the driver’s side window of the car and said “What’s up, man?” Then he slapped the officer in the face.
According to the report, Davis then said “F--- the police” as he began walking away.
Davis was promptly arrested and booked on a felony charge of battery of a police officer.

Se identificando como Marcos, o rapaz pergunta se alguém pode comprar arroz e leite para a família e, em seguida, grita: “é fome, por favor, é fome!”. O momento foi registrado por um morador de um dos condomínios, que afirmou que a cena tem se repetido toda semana no local.
Em apenas 18 segundos, o jornalista Carlos Alberto Júnior filmou o apelo e, em seguida, desceu para falar com Marcos. Em entrevista ao #JornalOGlobo, ele contou que o homem disse que mora em Goiás, mas que toda semana vai a Brasília para pedir alimentos porque está desempregado. Na ocasião, o rapaz estava acompanhado pela mulher e um casal de adolescentes, que disse serem seus filhos. Ele compartilhou ainda que deixou outras quatro crianças em casa, com fome.
"A fome é uma coisa triste, dava para sentir a voz rouca e faminta, e as pessoas vêm geralmente na mesma situação pedir por aqui porque é uma região de classe média. Então, acreditam que vão receber mais ajuda", completou.
Nos comentários da publicação, internautas escreveram que o Distrito Federal inteiro convive com cenas de pessoas implorando por comida diariamente. Um deles escreveu que onde mora um rapaz passa gritando nos blocos "ajuda pelo amor de Deus". Outro compartilhou o mesmo relato, e disse ainda que nos supermercados e bancos as cenas são frequentes.
Uma pesquisa divulgada pela Rede Brasileira de Pesquisa em Soberania e Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional (Rede Penssan) apontou que a pandemia deixou 19 milhões de pessoas com fome em 2020, atingindo 9% da população brasileira. O número de pessoas nessa situação quase dobrou, quando comparado à pesquisa do IBGE de 2018, que identificou 10,3 milhões de brasileiros nessa condição.

When I talk to you guys or having sessions with my patients, the question “how do I take care of myself” is never addressed.
Everybody feels as if they know how to do it already, however we often fail to consider that the things we have learnt aren’t necessarily healthy.
When I ask how they take care of themselves, many answer “Oh, you know, a nice bath, some food and a nice comedy to cheer me up”, and that sounds nice, but, where’s your work?
Taking care of oneself is an activity that requires knowledge, it’s about working with yourself to find what coping mechanism suit you, it’s about successfully finding the core trauma that translates in different symptoms, it’s about forming a relationship with ourselves.
Invest in you

Be honest: have you ever used the phrase “I’m fine” or “It’s nothing” whenever, clearly, you were feeling something different?

Lord knows I have, but Lord also knows how that didn’t really get me nowhere; if anything it made me feel even more as a victim, as if I always had to wait for other people to treat me how I would like, and while waiting, I was bound to suffer.

Until one day, I found out that behind my “I’m fines”, there is an entire universe. It can mean:

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me because I didn’t take the time to understand, but pretend from you to know what to do to make me feel better and get mad if you don’t, even if I, myself don’t know what’s wrong really”;
“I’m a private person”;
“I don’t want to show that I also have problems”;
“I don’t wanna be a burden”;
“You won’t understand anyway, so it’s better to stay quite”;
“I feel insecure”;
“I’m afraid you’ll leave if I voice my desires”;

When we say “I’m fine” that is the easy way to escape our problems; the way to remove the responsibility of taking care of ourselves from us, and placing it onto someone else that has no idea why and when you bestowed this duty on them.

Always be honest, first of all with yourself, as that will allow to speak your truth to the others as well.

“I’ll just do it myself” it’s a phrase I heard too many people say and is usually used when someone pretends to not be able to do a particular task (usually a chore), in the hope someone else will take the physical and mental load.
Fun fact? I tried this with my mom when I was a kid and she uttered these words “let me teach you so you’ll never have to ask again”.
This is about demanding (and rightfully so) an equal participation from our partners/family, co-workers and so on. So how to fix it?
Teach them once, and very thoroughly. Advice them to take notes in case they forget, as you won’t be repeating yourself again. You can point out also that they could’ve simply googled it, in order to also try proactivity.
Next time they “don’t know” the same thing, ask them to reference to their notes and nicely ask them to try and be independent: you aren’t their caretaker at the end of the day.
They need to understand that they’re an adult and they should be held responsible like an adult.
Nobody was born knowing how to do stuff, we all learned at some point or another, but it is very important to never give in to doing their work; simply let them try, practice and learn themselves, and introduce the idea that either they pick up the slack, or the chore won’t be done at all.
Basic survival skills are hot
